New Jersey school security guard faces sexual assault charge

Certain positions or job fields often put minors and adults in close proximity together. For one New Jersey school security guard, working in the presence of minors may have led to a situation where he now faces sexual assault charges. The 33-year-old guard is accused of assaulting a then 14-year-old girl.

The security guard was working a school event and the alleged victim says she talked with him there. She contends that as she left the event, he invited her into his truck and she obliged the request. Then, the then 14-year-old contends that she was then driven to a dark and secluded area where she was sexually assaulted by the guard.

The girl is currently 17 years old and recently reported the event to the police. The man in question has said that he was working at the particular school event and did have sexual relations with the girl in a secluded area. He has been arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child and sexual assault.

The man has allegedly admitted to having sexual intercourse with the girl. If he were to be charged, tried and found guilty of sexual assault of a minor in New Jersey, the penalties in the criminal court system can carry jail time and other harsh consequences. In a case where is may seem to be one person's word against another's, there may be other pieces of evidence or character witnesses that may play an important role in the criminal proceedings. The amount of time between the alleged incident and the reporting of the incident may also factor into how the case turns out or what evidence may be admissible in court. The man in this case has the right to know the evidence against him and also the right to be considered innocent until -- and only if -- proven guilty.
