A man is being held in a county jail after a car accident that took place recently. The 22-year-old man has been charged with a number of violations related to the incident, including DWI. The New Jersey crash that resulted in his arrest has also left a woman critically injured. According to authorities, the man was driving on a Thursday evening when his vehicle left the road and hit a woman who was standing on the sidewalk near a high school. The car then went on to hit a light post, a tree and then a utility pole. The 28-year-old woman who was hit was taken to a medical center and was listed in critical condition.Police suspected the driver was under the influence, and they reportedly took a blood sample. He is charged with DWI and also aggravated assault by car and reckless driving. He was held on $75,000 bail. The results of a blood sample can make a difference in the outcome of this case, as can the extent of the injuries the woman sustained. When someone in New Jersey is convicted after being charged with DWI, any past DWI convictions can lead to jail time and marked increase in the fines they may face, as well as the amount of time they may lose their license. A DWI can also affect a person’s reputation and career; which means it is paramount that those charged know all of the evidence against them and also understand all of the possible consequences they may face in a New Jersey criminal court.
