New Jersey man taken into custody on drug charges

A 47-year-old man was taken into custody at 1 p.m. on Sept. 22 for allegedly distributing Oxycodone and Buprenorphine in a public housing complex and near a school. He was charged with three counts of possession of the pills with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of public property and 500 feet within a school. During a court appearance on Sept. 23, he was ordered held on $50,000 bail.

Reports indicate that he had been taken into custody 28 times in New Jersey, six times in Virginia and once in New York prior to this incident. He has been charged with crimes ranging from disorderly conduct to burglary in the state of New Jersey. There was no information given as to the charges he faced in New York or Virginia.

Police also took a 52-year-old man into custody and charged him with possession of Buprenorphine. The two men made their court appearance in Central Judicial Processing court in Jersey City through a video link. They are both being held in Hudson County jail. Bail information for the second man was not available in reports.

Those who are facing drug charges may wish to dispute the allegations in court. This may be done with the assistance of a criminal defense attorney. An attorney may be able to review the case against an individual and create a defense against the charge. One such defense may be to argue that police obtained evidence illegally and that it should not be allowed to be used at trial. If a conviction appears likely, the attorney might attempt to negotiate a plea bargain that seeks mitigated penalties.
