Law enforcement officials in Mercer County, New Jersey are cracking down on drugs. In one day, they made multiple arrests at multiple locations. Those arrested are now facing drug charges which could, if they are convicted, lead to some serious jail time and/or hefty fines.
According to police, Mercer County detectives made an arrest on an alleged drug dealer who they report they found sleeping in an apartment next to a pile of alleged crack cocaine. The man was only one of five people who would be arrested this particular day during three simultaneous raids. The raids were planned and led by the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office Special Investigations Unit and they took place at 6:00 a.m.
Mercer County detectives also raided an apartment on Prospect Street and found 10 grams of alleged drugs in the bathroom. They also report that they found four prescription painkillers and a loaded .40 caliber handgun in a dresser drawer. This search resulted in the arrest of two individuals who now face multiple drug charges.
In a third raid at the same apartment complex, police recovered unspecified drug paraphernalia. No arrest was made as no one was inside the apartment at the time. Lastly, two other people were arrested and charged with possession of crack cocaine. The details of those arrests are not known at this time. According to authorities, the alleged drugs have a value of about $2,000.
Whether or not these drug charges will hold up in court remain to be seen. New Jersey residents who charged with drug crimes are always considered innocent until proven otherwise. For those facing drug charges, consultation with a criminal defense lawyer may prove to be a very good first step in setting up a solid defense against the charges.
