An investigation by local authorities has led to serious charges against a 48-year-old man. The New Jersey man is facing sexual assault charges related to a minor. Reports indicate that the 12-year-old girl who is at the center of the complaint is an acquaintance of the accused man.
According to news reports, the minor girl told adults who worked at her school that she had what was referred to as 'inappropriate contact' with the arrested individual. School officials then notified police of the reported assault against the minor. An investigation into the incident commenced, with involvement from the Special Victims Unit.
Reports indicate that there is apparently only one occasion specified when an alleged assault against the girl occurred. The man faces charges of endangering the welfare of a child along with the sexual assault charge levied against him. According to authorities, the accused was being held pending a $100,000 bail, and is ineligible to pay the more typical 10 percent.
Under the law, the specific charge against the man has a penalty of up to 10 years in prison. Accused individuals who find themselves facing charges that ultimately carry a prison term, such as the sexual assault charge levied against this man, may wish to investigate what their legal rights are and exactly what kind of evidence there may be against them. In New Jersey, sexual assault of a minor is a very serious charge to deal with and most individuals may choose to make every effort to defend themselves and utilize all of their options before facing a trial in a court of law.
