Littering is a serious offense on its own, and those caught in the act may face monetary fines in relation. However, should a similar action lead to a traffic stop, the situation could become much worse, especially if authorities suspect the presence of further wrongdoing. A 19-year-old man has recently been arrested and is facing drug charges following a traffic stop that took place under similar circumstances in New Jersey.

The incident took place at around 6:40 a.m. on a recent Saturday morning after a police officer claimed to have witnessed a driver throwing trash out the window while waiting at a traffic light. The officer proceeded to initiate a traffic stop and, upon approaching the vehicle, allegedly caught wind of the scent of marijuana. A subsequent search allegedly led the officer to discover the man to be in possession of an unspecified amount of marijuana.

During this period, the officer also asserts that the man attempted to give false information regarding his identity. He was taken into custody soon thereafter and faces criminal charges in relation to the incident, including possession of marijuana. According to reports, he has since been released from custody while awaiting future court proceedings.

Facing drug charges can be a stressful and daunting experience, and with the potential weight of a conviction, those who are accused of similar crimes might find it beneficial to seek guidance early in the process. By speaking with an attorney, a person in New Jersey could obtain advice on the consequences he or she may face. A defense attorney can thoroughly examine a client’s circumstances and provide advice on how to pursue the best outcome possible given the situation.
