Authorities announced that over 100 people had been charged in an alleged heroin and cocaine bust. State police claim some of those arrested are responsible for operating a massive drug distribution organization in New Jersey. Experts agree that thousands of lives are being lost to the opioid epidemic, and New Jersey police have no intention of slowing in their efforts to stop the rising death toll from drugs.

The sting operation targeted two major statewide networks covering Paterson, Newark and Lodi. Detectives supposedly seized 18,000 bags of heroin, a pound of marijuana, five bags of cocaine and three handguns. Allegedly, the majority of those apprehended face charges of operating a drug trafficking organization and other drug-related offenses, and16 people were arrested on other outstanding warrants. The operation was based in the Paterson area that is known to gangs like 4K Bloods and Korner Boys who have connections to the so-called Bloods street gang.

Drug charges of any kind can adversely affect a person’s life in numerous ways. The enormity of the alleged drug charges along with the stress of trying to understand the criminal justice system can be unnerving. It is critical that anyone accused ensures that his or her legal rights are protected.

With the lure of easy money and addiction, many people find themselves caught up in the endless battle unable to escape. A conviction for drug distribution may result in jail time, fines, probation and expensive court-ordered treatment plans. In New Jersey, when someone is facing serious drug charges, the best defense may be that of an established criminal defense attorney.
